Satisfy Your Soul with Irresistible Shepherd's Pie

In the US, Shepherd's pie, Hachis Parmentier, and Cottage pie are similar dishes made with different meats. Despite Shepherd's pie traditionally using ground lamb and Cottage pie using ground beef, most Americans associate the dish with ground beef.

Shepherd's Pie Recipe Ingredients:

Heat oil in a large cast-iron skillet over high heat. Brown ground meat for 6-8 minutes, breaking into bits to prevent large chunks.

Lower heat. Simmer red wine and tomato paste until liquid evaporates. Add flour, Worcestershire sauce, beef broth, and beef/chicken bouillon (optional).

Simmer mixture, reduce heat, stir occasionally until slightly thickened (~10-15 mins). Add peas and corn, stir until heated. Season with salt and pepper. Set aside.

Mash boiled potatoes with milk, butter, sour cream, salt, and pepper until creamy using a masher or hand mixer. Set aside.

Cool beef layer before topping with mashed potatoes to prevent sinking. Firm mashed potatoes are better to keep level while baking. Avoid making them too runny.
