Ingredients

  • 1 cup (200g) sugar
  • 1 cup (237ml) water
  • 1 pound (453.59g) ripe strawberries , hulled or frozen strawberry see notes
  • cup (83.33ml) fresh lime juice
  • 1 cup (235ml) tequila
  • ⅓ -½ cup  (109.33g-164g) Triple sec
  • cup (109.33g) simple syrup (see notes for substitution)
  • 3- 4 cups (651g-868g) ice
  • 1 lime cut into slices or wedges for serving
  • coarse salt for rims

Instructions

Homemade Simple Syrup

  • In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup sugar and 1 cup of water. Bring to a boil, keep stirring until sugar has dissolved- about 5-7 minutes. Let it cool.

Rimming your glass.

  • Pour lime or lemon juice to a plate or shallow bowl. Use water if you do not have juice or use sliced lime to rub the rim of the glass.
  • In another plate or shallow bowl, add sugar or salt. Set aside.
  • If making colored sugar, add sugar to a food processor and add desired amount of food coloring. Pulse until blended. Remove and place on a plate  .
  • Shake off any drops of water from the glass, and dip glass upside down into desired garnish. Twist the glass around in the salt or sugar. This will ensure every inch is covered with a thick coating. Tap off any excess sugar. Set aside and proceed with the margarita .

Margarita

  • Add chopped strawberry, lime juice, tequila, triple sec, simple syrup and ice to a blender. Blend until smooth.
  • Pour into rimmed glasses and serve immediately, garnish with sliced lime and or strawberry.

Notes

  1. NO need to thaw frozen strawberries. They actually make your margarita thicker and keeps the cold a little bit longer.
  2. If you want it thicker, add more ice or less ice for a thinner drink. If it turns out that the drink is too thick for your liking, thin it out by adding liquid a little at a time.
  3. Triple sec is an orange-flavored colorless liqueur made from dried peels of bitter and sweet oranges. If you don’t have one handy, a Grand Marnier (a mix of Cognac and distilled bitter orange and sugar) is a good option. Last resort would be adding the real thing, by that, I meant orange peel/zest or juice for a non-alcoholic version.
  4. If you don’t want to go into the trouble of making your own simple syrup (one part water and one part sugar- see instructions down below), feel free to swap it with honey or agave syrup.
