Ingredients

  • 2 cups (300g) chopped ham
  • 4 ounces (113g) cream cheese, softened
  • ¼ cup (8g) sweet onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon (15g) sweet pickle relish
  • 1 green onion,  sliced
  • 1 teaspoon (5g) mustard
  • ½-1 teaspoon (2.5-5ml) hot sauce
  • ½ teaspoon (2.5ml) Worcestershire sauce (optional)
  • cup (75g) mayonnaise
  • salt and freshly ground pepper to taste
  • ⅛ -¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon (5ml) lemon juice

Instructions

  • Chop the ham into small pieces for easier processing. Process chopped ham in a food processor until very finely chopped.
  • Remove ham from the processor and place in a large bowl with the cream cheese, onion, sweet pickle relish, green onion, mustard, hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce (optional), mayonnaise, salt, and black pepper to taste, cayenne pepper (optional), and lemon juice.
  • Salt lightly if desired. Remember that the ham is already salty.
  • Store in the fridge for up to 48 hours or serve immediately with crackers, vegetable sticks, toast, or on sandwiches.

Notes

  • Ham can be quite salty. If you're worried about the salt content, scale back on Worcestershire sauce or leave it out.
  • This recipe contains mayonnaise, so I don't recommend leaving it at room temperature for more than two hours.
  • Deviled ham makes a fun holiday gift! To gift it, store it in a tightly closed jar placed in a cooler filled with ice. Remind your recipient to transfer it to the refrigerator and consume it within two days for optimal freshness.
