2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour 1¼ teaspoon (4g) baking powder ⅔ teaspoon (4.5g) salt 1½ tablespoons (30g) sugar 1 teaspoon (5ml) vanilla extract ¼ cup (57g) melted butter ⅔ cup (158ml) milk Oil for frying Powdered sugar (or cinnamon sugar) for sprinkling
Mix flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar in a large bowl.
Add melted butter, milk, and vanilla extract. Mix and then transfer to a board and knead with hands for 5 minutes.
Divide into 10 pieces and let it rest for 10 minutes.
After the resting period, roll out each piece to about ½ inch thick.
Heat an inch of oil in a deep pan to 375°F/190℃ over medium heat.
Carefully lower the rolled dough into the pan—fry the dough in batches, but don't overcrowd the pan.
Let it cook for about a minute, then flip it over and cook the other side for another minute.
Top with powdered or cinnamon sugar, and enjoy!
Brush your fried dough with extra melted butter before sprinkling it with cinnamon sugar so the sugar sticks better.
You can get comfort food even faster by using premade biscuit, croissant, or pizza dough. Just roll out your dough in serving-size disks.
