¾cup (85-90g)chopped pecan(chopped walnuts also work fine)
¼teaspoon (1-2g)salt
1cup (210g)light brown sugar
2teaspoons (5-6g)ground cinnamon
¼teaspoon (1g)ground nutmeg
½teaspoon (2-3g)baking powder
4ounces (113g)unsalted butter,melted
2teaspoons (10ml)vanilla extract
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375℉ (190℃).
Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
Chop the apples into medium chunks, then add them to a large bowl with the lemon juice, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, granulated sugar, and brown sugar. Mix until thoroughly combined. Transfer the mixture to the greased baking dish.
In another mixing bowl, combine the flour, oats, pecans, salt, vanilla extract, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and baking powder.
Top the apple mixture with the oat mixture, and spread it evenly over the apples.
Bake for 25-30 minutes or until slightly bubbling around edges, the apples are tender, and the topping is golden brown.
Let it cool slightly, then serve immediately with vanilla ice cream.
Notes
Firm, tart apples with some sweetness make the best crumble.
I used melted butter for my topping, but if you want to cut in cold butter, that works too.
Grating in a little fresh ginger adds a nice touch.
