Easy Burger Seasoning Recipe
Unlock the key to spicing up irresistible burgers with this homemade burger seasoning. Enjoy the perfect balance of savory and herby flavors with a hint of heat for your backyard cookouts. Plus, this outstanding spice blend works wonderfully far beyond burger patties.

While we created this blend specifically for our burgers on our last cookout, it also goes great on steak and in chili.
Why Make Your Own Spice Blends
You may be thinking why bother making it when it’s so much easier to buy it? Yep, it’s convenient, but have you read the scary ingredient labels on many premade spice mixes? Besides, I prefer homemade so I can customize it to my family’s tastes and reduce the salt content. Speaking of which…
Another advantage to making your own spice mix is the price. Almost every blend I looked at on Amazon had salt as the first or second ingredient, and it cost, on average, $1 per ounce. That’s a lot to pay for salt!

How to Make Your Own Hamburger Seasoning

- Mix all the spices and herbs together, and make your burgers.

Recipe Notes
- Turn it into a marinade with olive oil, vinegar or lemon juice, soy sauce, and honey or maple syrup.
- A couple of grains of rice or a food-grade silica packet can help prevent clumping.
- Fill an empty salt shaker with the spice blend and keep it on the table to spice up dinner.
- Label your spice container with the name of the blend and the date you made it. I say I’m not going to forget, but I always do.
Make-Ahead Instructions
Spice blends last as long as the oldest ingredient in the mix. If using fresh spices, they will last up to 2 years in a glass jar in a dark, cool pantry. If making a double batch, it lasts indefinitely in a ziplock bag in the freezer.
Ways to Use Burger Seasoning
The first way is hamburgers, right? However, you can also season baked sweet potato fries, baked potato wedges, smoked brisket, and grilled veggies. Actually, you can use it in any recipe that calls for Creole seasoning or a versatile spice mix.
