Hot Foods for Picnics
Cold foods are safest when picnicking. Keep it as cold as possible in a cooler with plenty of ice. However, if you just have to have hot food, here are some useful tips.
- When packing, thoroughly heat your food close to the time you plan on leaving. Then, pack it in an insulated cooler (in this case, an insulated warmer) that can hold food at around 140℉ (60℃) or above.
- Keep the heat in as much as possible by keeping the food covered. A thermometer is helpful when in doubt.
- And please toss any food that has been at less than ideal temperatures for longer than two hours.

I love your site, Imma! One of my favorite things about it is it is ad-free! As for this compilation, I love most of the things on this list! I’m not the biggest fan of hummus, but I am willing to try it again.
My dad makes the tuna sandwiches around here, and he adds fresh apples. Many people hate it, but we personally enjoy the contrasting textures and flavors. And he never served it on toasted bread!
I will be trying your biscuit recipe soon. I make mine in the air fryer, and they still turn out incredibly soft and flaky. We eat ours with jam or peanut butter from our local Homestead Heritage.
Thank you again for your incredible website! It’s my favorite! Enjoy your week!

Thank you so much for your comment.
One issue I have, is how many of these dishes can be eaten cold? Tuna Melt, Chicken Sandwich, Sausage roll. Beef Empanada and Buffalo Chicken Dip are all supposed to be served hot. Those might be considered party dishes, but they shouldn’t be called picnic dishes. I do plan to make some of the others.
Thanks for your feedback. I understand cold food is much safer on a picnic, and that’s what I usually do. However, some people like their food hot no matter what the occasion. Here are some tips for those who like hot food at a picnic.
1. When packing, properly heat your food as much as possible without ruining it close to the time you plan on leaving.
2. Pack the food in an insulated cooler (in this case, insulated warmer) that holds food around 140℉/60 ℃ or above.
3. Keep the heat in as much as possible by keeping the food covered. A thermometer is helpful when in doubt.
4. Toss any food left out to cool longer than two hours.
Hope that helps.
Absolutely delightful recipes.
Thank you for sharing your words. Feeling blessed!
I totally love this compilation! Thank you for coming up with an epic list like this.
